Recipe: Croutons

8 1-inch slices of French bread cut into 1-inch square chunks

(Stale bread is fine. You can also use old hamburger buns, other breads like sourdough, etc. It really doesn't matter. They all work.)

1 tsp or clove of pureed garlic

    one-half stick of butter

    3 Tbl olive oil

    garlic salt

Melt the butter and olive oil together in a large sauté pan. Add garlic and then toss in the croutons. Keep tossing them to get the butter and olive oil mixture onto as many sides of the bread as possible so it doesn't all soak into one side.

Cook on medium-low until all croutons are browned. Alternatively, brown them in the oven on a cookie sheet. While they are still warm and moist, sprinkle them with garlic salt to taste.
